Jane Ellen Svendsen, 84, of Hampton, died at the Hampton Care Center January 11, 2002. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 15, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hampton, with burial at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery near Belmond. Father David Beckman officiated. Jane Holtzbauer was born August 9, 1917 in Belmond, the daughter of Mathias Holtzbauer and Katherine Sullivan. She grew up in Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On May 27, 1943 she married Harold Svendsen at Riverside, California. She was a teacher in a country school in Williams and a nurse's aide in Hampton. Jane was a Legion Auxiliary member for 50 years and was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, and embroidering,

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister. Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Charles (Chuck) and Joni Svendsen of Hampton; daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Tom Kramer of Clarion, Kathye and Lou Gaines of Mason City, Barb and Rick Oudekerk of Hampton; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
