Rex F. Fetrow, 85, of Belmond died Monday, January 14, 2002, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, Minnesota. Memorial services were held Friday, January 18, 2002 at the United Methodist Church in Belmond with Pastor Mike Druhl officiating. A private family burial took place prior to the service at the Belmond Cemetery.

Rex Frazier Fetrow was born on a farm near Belmond on February 25, 1916. He was the only child of Albert L. and Minnie Easton Fetrow. He lived in the Belmond area his entire life except for four years when he lived in Iowa Falls. He was a life long member of the United Methodist Church. Rex received his early education in country schools in Iowa and Pleasant Townships. He attended high school in Belmond and graduated with the class of 1933. His classmates continued a close relationship and met monthly. Rex worked at various jobs throughout his high school years. When he was 20 he assumed the responsibility for the family farm. On September 1, 1938, he married Marian E. Luckman from Bowbells, North Dakota. To this union two children were born: James D. in 1939 and Diane C in 1943. Besides farming, Rex spent many years as the farm manager for Acco Seeds in Belmond. Rex enjoyed outdoor activities, especially fishing and gardening. While he was recovering from radiation treatment during the spring and summer of 2001, he enjoyed his last special garden at the farm of Chuck and Ruth Wilmarth. The vegetables were shared with friends at the Belmond Community Apartments.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; and a granddaughter, Linda. Rex is survived by two children: James and his wife, Peggy of Traverse City, Michigan; and Diane and her husband, Jon Closson of Rochester, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Beth Fetrow, David and his wife, Kelly Fetrow, Kay and husband, Guy Bush, Kim and husband, Fred Hale, Steve and wife, Melanie Hansen, and Mike and wife, Renee Hansen; three great-grandchildren: Zachery Tannahill, Carter Hale and Benjamin Bush; and special friend, Margaret Brady.
