William (Bill) Eugene Swenson, 63, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2001 in Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines of a heart attack. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 12, 2001 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Urbandale. Burial was in the Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines.
Bill, the son of William and Sadie (Terhark) Swenson, was born at Lake Cornelia. He graduated from Belmond High School in 1955 and from Waldorf College in 1957. On June 26, 1965 he married Janice Van Dusseldorp in the Central Lutheran Church, Des Moines. They had two children and lived in the Clive/Urbandale area for 35 years. Bill served in the US Army. He was employed at Firestone, Water Solutions Incorporated as a service technician and also worked at Roto Rooter. Bill was a former Boy Scout leader and was a charter member of Sons of Norway. He was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed fishing.
Preceding him in death were his father, William Sidney Swenson, his brother-in-law, Bernard Miller, a nephew, Todd Larkin and a niece, Diane Bandstra. Survivors include: wife, Jan Swenson of Clive; mothe, Sadie B. Swenson of Belmond; daughter and husband, Rhonda and Bill Banwart of Des Moines; son, Aaron Swenson of Clive; sisters, Genevieve Larkin of Belmond and Karen Miller of Muskogee, Oklahoma; brother, Richard Swenson of Springville; granddaughter, Madison Banwart of Des Moines and grandson, Zachary Nelson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
