Edith Marjorie Shahan, 84, Belmond, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at the Riverside Manor Nursing Home in Ames. Funeral services were held Monday, May 14, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Interment was in the Belmond Cemetery near Belmond. The Tenold Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Music was provided by Eldoris Bunnell, organist; Marilyn Janssen, vocalist. Ushers were Loren Bamford and Francis Morris. Casket bearers were Timothy Shahan, Dale Allen Shahan, Bruce Shahan, Todd Benson, Bruce Wilder, and Dale Andrew Shahan.

Edith Marjorie Johnson, the daughter of Carlton and Adina (Hefte) Johnson was born April 2, 1916 in rural Kanawha. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Belmond. They lived in Belmond while Stanley worked for General Mills and Central Soya. In 1945 they moved to Amarillo, Texas but returned to Belmond that same year. After a medical retirement from Central Soya, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they lived and worked in a mobile home park. They returned to Iowa in 1993 and lived in Ames. Edith was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Stanley in 2000; son, Roger Shahan; two grandchildren, Cindy and Danny; sisters, Laura and Aileen; brothers, Gaylen and Clair, and Stanley in infancy. Survivors are her children and spouses, Allen and Jody Shahan of Yarnell, Aarizona, Karen and Tony Benson of Shallowater, Texas, daughter-in-law, Mary Shahan of Ames; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Christenson and her husband, Earl of Forest City, Wilma Friesleben of Belmond; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dudley and Janice Johnson of Kanawha, Arland and Avis Johnson of Hector, Minnesota, Gary and Barbara Johnson of St. Johns, Newfoundland, and many nieces and nephews.
