A graveside service for Phillip Covington will be at the Belmond Cemetery on Saturday, May 5, 2001. Rod Hopp will be officiating. Phillip M. Covington, 75, of Des Moines, died November 20, 2000, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. The body was cremated. Phillip Covington, the son of Sam and Pearl Rierson Covington, was born July 8, 1925 in Belmond. He was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond. Phillip attended school in Belmond, graduating from Belmond High School in 1943. Phillip enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1943, and served his country during WW II. Following his Honorable Discharge in 1946, he attended the University of Iowa graduating in 1951. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Phillip is preceded in death by his parents. There are no immediate survivors.
