Roselpha (Rose) Maude was born Sept. 4, 1905 at Bradgate, the ninth child of James and Mattie Lovrien and chose the single life and a career rather than marriage. After graduating from high school, she attended Iowa State Normal College in Cedar Falls and business schools in Fort Dodge and Minneapolis.

An attractive person with an engaging personality, Rose put up with much family pressure to marry instead of competing with men in the business world. She spent the major part of her adult life as the business manager of a men's clothing store in Fort Dodge.

Rose visited her parents regularly and was a welcome guest of friends and relatives. She was most popular with children and patiently endured their sticky fingers, grimy faces and constant invasions of her privacy. It would be risky to say that Roselpha was her father's favorite daughter, but it was obvious that James Lovrien adored her and welcomed her presence.
