Mary Evelyn Lovrien
by Donald Orville Legg

Born Nov. 6, 1907 at Bradgate, the tenth and youngest child of James and Mattie Lovrien, Mary Evelyn was wed to Roger Middleton soon after graduating from high school in Eagle Grove.

Mary, pretty much of a "Tomboy" in her childhood, came of age young during the roaring 20's. The strict rules of the Lovrien household regarding dating, getting in early, et al were often in conflict with the new freedom being claimed by the young adults at that time. The marriage of Mary and Roger proved to be a right choice and this couple went on to prosper as farm folks in the Eagle Grove region as well as to become leaders in community activities.

No children were born of this union. However, they adopted a son, Harold who entered the trucking business after completing his education. Harold and his wife have five children who make Mary's home their second home.

Roger died suddenly and left Mary with major farm and business involvements. She proved herself to be a person of mettle, picking up where Roger left off and seeing things through with great wisdom and stewardship. Harold gave Mary splendid support during those trying days and remains a loyal ally to her as she sorts her life out and carries on.
