Edith Wright, 96, Northwood, died Friday (Dec. 16, 2005) at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, 309 N. Ninth St. in Northwood with the Rev. Barbara Wills officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South in Northwood. Visitation will also be one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.

Edith was born on Mar. 17, 1909, in Silver Lake Township, the daughter of Amund and Johanna (Jorde) Groe. Edith attended rural schools near Lake Mills and graduated from Lake Mills High School. She also attended Waldorf College in Forest City. After completing her schooling she taught in rural schools in Worth County.

She was united in marriage to Donald Wright on May 12, 1935, at the Methodist Church parsonage in Northwood. He preceded her in death in June 1994. After their marriage, they owned and operated Wright’s Grocery Store in Northwood for 10 years.

Edith enjoyed playing cards, including bridge and 500, flowers, gardening, board games, cooking and baking, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and the church circle, Eastern Star member, Green Thumb Garden Club, 20’s Club and was a former Sunday school teacher.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Donna Bott and her husband Edward, of Northwood; grandchildren, Donald Bott, of Rochester, N.Y., Douglas Bott, of Sitka, Alaska, DeeAnne Shaw and her husband Robert Shaw III, of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Bradley Wright, of Northwood; a daughter-in-law, Lonna Wright, of Mason City; three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Groe, of Northwood, Wilma Groe of Burlington, and Dorothy Helgeland of Lake Mills; special loved ones, Donald Hagen of Northwood, Ila Mae Everding of Oklahoma, Richard Hagen of Olivia, Minn., and LaDonna Kerton of California, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Her husband Donald; a son, Chuck Wright; grandson Michael Wright; and eight brothers and sisters preceded Edith in death.
