William “Bill” Gentz Jr., 96, of 1978 Highway 105, died Friday (Dec. 16, 2005) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Deer Creek Lutheran Church in rural Carpenter, with the Rev. Lance Kittleson and the Rev. Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South in Northwood. Memorials may be directed to the William Gentz Memorial Fund.

William “Bill” Gentz Jr. was born on Nov. 12, 1909, the son of William and Matilda (Hanson) Gentz. Bill attended Meltonville and Otranto schools. Bill then moved west of Northwood where he worked as a farm hand. Bill went into farming for himself in 1933 with horses, farming east of Northwood. After he retired from farming he worked for Carroll George until his retirement.

Bill was united in marriage to Esther Kloose on Apr. 15, 1934, in Northwood. To this union 11 children were born. Together they joined the Deer Creek Lutheran Church. Bill was a loving husband for 71 years.

He loved farming and playing cards, he greatly enjoyed dancing, and having a good time. Bill took great pride in taking care of his tractors, machinery, and lawnmowers. Bill’s greatest love was visiting and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Delores (LaVern) Baldwin, Charles Gentz, Richard (Sharon) Gentz, Marilyn (Chuck) Holland, Gloria (David) Davidson, Rosalie (Steve) Greiman, Eugene (Marilyn) Gentz, June (Keith) Low, Robert (Cyndi) Gentz and Julie (Tom) Bock; 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Dorothy Low; sisters-in-law, Clara and Hazel Kloose; brother-in-law, Martin Kloose; along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William and Matlida Gentz; loving wife of 71 years Esther Gentz; son, Wilbert Gentz; brothers, Art, Roy, and Raymond Gentz; and sisters, Florence Bottleman, and Wilma Thompson.
