Obituary for Jane D. Clagett

Jane D. (Sands) Clagett, 90 of Manly, died Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 12, 2015, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 503 E. South St., Manly, with Pastor Don Preston officiating. Inurnment will follow a luncheon at the church, in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Salvation Army.

Jane was born September 1, 1925, the daughter of Carl Larson and Bernice Sands in Emmetsburg. She married Doyle W. Clagett on September 14, 1948, in Mason City.

Jane grew up in a blended family in Mallard with a sister, Sally, and two step-brothers, Ted and Andrew. During World War II she worked in the ship yards in Portland, OR. She and Doyle farmed near Kensett for nearly 40 years.

Jane was very creative and enjoyed decorating and embroidery. She also loved every holiday.

Jane is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Victor) Hewett of Mason City and Angela (Michael) Espino of Kansas City, MO; one grandson, Sean Irvin of Texas; a sister, Sally (Paul) Bierie of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Theodore “Ted” (Norma) Larson of Mallard; a sister-in-law, Anne Larson of Buffalo Center; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Andrew Larson.
