NORTHWOOD, IOWA - Margaret Arlene Godfrey, 102, Northwood, died Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at the Lutheran Retirement Home.

A funeral service for Margaret will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at the United Methodist Church, 1000 First Ave. N., Northwood, with the Rev. Shirley Hoffmann officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Friday at the church.

Those wishing to give a memorial in her memory may wish to consider memorials to the Lutheran Retirement Home or to the United Methodist Church in Northwood.

Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood, is in charge of the arrangements.

Margaret Arlene Godfrey was born on June 8, 1913, in Gilman, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Conger) Nielandt. She was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in the Methodist faith. She attended Northwood Community Schools, graduating from Northwood High School. She was united in marriage to Orble Godfrey on Dec. 8, 1935, in Northwood. Orble preceded her in death in 1994.

Margaret was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rachel Circle, Semper Fidelis Study Club, Green Thumb Garden Club, was a 4-H Leader, and taught Sunday School for 40 years.

Margaret will be remembered for her green thumb, her vegetable and flower garden, handy work, quilting, sewing, and baking bread.

Those left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, David (Linda) Salz, Brian (Laurie) Salz, Mark (Terry) Salz, Scott (Jacki) Salz, Wendy (Mike) Weisert, Wynnette (Frank) Flores, Wanda (Jim) Christensen, Wayde (Jill) Willand, and Wendell (Penny) Willand; her great-grandchildren, Brandon (Morgan), Jason, Heather (Zach), Tyler (Kelsi), Brittany (Jeff), Joey, Wyatt, Weston, Alyssa, Erika (Spencer), Jason (Sarah), Heather, Michael, and Thomas; 11 great-great grandchildren; her sister, Wilma Groe of Burlington, Iowa; and Wayne Willand’s second wife, Beverly Grotsun of Albert Lea, Minnesota; as well as many other nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, son, Norman Godfrey, daughters, Joyce Willand and Arlene Salz, sons-in-law, Wayne Willand and John Salz; sisters, Crystal White, and Florence Nielandt; twin brothers at birth; great-grandson, Ryan Weisert; and brother-in-law, Ken Groe.
