NORTHWOOD, IOWA - Clarice Irene Anderson, 102, Northwood, died Thursday, October 22, 2015, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

A funeral service for Irene will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at the First Lutheran Church, 309 North Ninth St., Northwood, with the Rev. Judy Converse officiating. Burial will be at the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South, Northwood. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

Those wishing to give a memorial in her memory may wish to consider memorial contributions be made to the Lutheran Retirement Home, First Lutheran Church, both in Northwood, or to Apple Valley Assisted Living in Clear Lake.

Clarice Irene Anderson was born on July 9, 1913, in rural Northwood, the daughter of Oscar and Jennie (Lee) Walswick. She was baptized on Sept. 7, 1913, in the South Shell Rock Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation on First Lutheran Church in Northwood, on May 13, 1928, by the Rev. Ylvisaker. Irene attended Grove Township School district and graduated from Northwood High School, on May 27, 1932. While going to high school, and after her graduation, she cared for many families in the Northwood, Ellendale, Minnesota, and Clear Lake areas.

She was united in marriage to Glenn Anderson on Feb. 15, 1941, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Northwood, and to this marriage four children were born, Gordon, Allen, Becky, and Rosalie. After their marriage Irene and her husband Glenn farmed north of Northwood. In later years Irene worked for Carroll George in Northwood, and the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood. Irene also cared for Joann and Terry Steinmrtz children in their home.

Irene enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning fruit and vegetables, needlework, reading, and visiting with her many friends and family, but her great love and enjoyment was her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Irene was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church, the church circle, and the Red Hat Women’s Society at the Apple Valley Assisted Living in Clear Lake.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Gordon (Johanna) Anderson of Osage, Allen (Sharon) Anderson of Northwood, Becky (Jim) Rube of Clear Lake, and Rosalie (Alan) Hove of Gig Harbor, WA; eight grandchildren, Shawn (Mark) Urbatch of Grafton, Tracy (Dawn) Anderson, and Jeffrey (Leslie) Anderson of Clear Lake, Charles (Mary) Anderson of Hampton, Angela (Tony) Cordle of Mechanicsburg, PA, Autumn (Brian) Halterman of Greenwood, MO, Nathaniel Hove and special friend Lauren of Gig Harbor, WA, and Tyler Hove and fiancé Jillian of San Jose, CA; 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Edna Turvold of Northwood; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Jennie Walswick; her husband Glenn who died on April 13, 1985; siblings, June Gilbertson, Orville and Lee Walswick; brothers and sisters-in-law, Odean Turvold, Geraldine Walswick, Jason Gilbertson, Clayton Anderson, Alice and Ellsworth Whitcome, Russell and Pearl Anderson, Doris and Burdette Barker, Clarice and Ray Perry, and Chester and Adelaide Anderson.
