MASON CITY, IOWA - Eugene F. Kirschbaum, 95, of Mason City, died Monday, December 15, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 North Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Neil Manternach officiating. A visitation of family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a scriptural wake service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City. Interment will be at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City, Iowa. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com .
Eugene F. Kirschbaum was born on the farm November 7, 1919, in rural Woden, Iowa, to Aloyus and Golda (Gordon) Kirschbaum. He attended Crystal Lake School. Eugene began farming with his father in rural Crystal Lake. He was married to Geneva Gelner on Jan. 3, 1941. They moved to a rural Hanlontown farm in 1944, where he continued to farm and do carpenter work until he retired.
They were members of St. James Parish in Forest City for many years. Geneva passed away in 1982. Eugene enjoyed horses, woodworking, making things with his hands and making things for his family. He enjoyed his grandchildren.
Eugene married Madonna Chodur in 1985. They lived on the farm before moving to Mason City.
He is survived by his wife, Madonna, daughter, Linda (Myron) Halvorson, Tolna, North Dakota; daughters-in-law, Catherine of Clear Lake and Gloria of Fertile; eight grandchildren: Wade (Lisa) Halvorson, Michelle (Terry) Calkins, Melissa (Philip) McHenry, John Kirschbaum, Erik (Brenda) Kirschbaum, Kristen Anderson, John (Kathy) Kirschbaum, Karl (Tisha) Kirschbaum; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Vavrik of Clear Lake; stepchildren: Sheila, Dennis, Renee, Barbara, Philip, Catherine, Nancy, Jovita, Mary, Joseph, and Jennifer.
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Geneva; granddaughter, Beth Ann; sons, Edward and Tom; brothers, Ray, Cecil, Vincent, and sisters, Darlene and Mae.
