NORTHWOOD, IOWA - Neva Lorraine (Harmon) Julseth, 91, of Northwood, died Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

A funeral service for Neva will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, 4108 Killdeer Ave., Kensett, with the Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church.

Those wishing to give a memorial in her memory may wish to consider memorial contributions to Elk Creek Lutheran Church.

Neva L. (Harmon) Julseth was born on April 17, 1923, in Northwood, the daughter of Elmer L. and Lena M. (Berg) Harmon. Neva was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through Confirmation at First Lutheran Church in Northwood, and graduated from Northwood High School in 1941. After her schooling, Neva worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Northwood for five years, then as a nurse’s assistant at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

She was united in marriage to Orville Julseth on September 1, 1946, in Northwood, and farmed west of Kensett, just south of Elk Creek Lutheran Church for 26 years. In 1972 they moved to Northwood where she worked for the Lutheran Retirement Home as a nurse’s assistant, and for Worth County Homemakers as a home health aide.

Neva enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, picture puzzles, having coffee and playing cards with her friends, delivering Meals on Wheels in Northwood, and volunteering at the Share Shop in Northwood, but her great love and enjoyment was spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Neva was a member of the Elk Creek Lutheran Church and the church circle in Kensett.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Ronald (Beth Ann) Julseth of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, James O. (Sue) Julseth of Springfield, Illinois, Russell Julseth of Northwood, Janice (Ben) Helgeson of Spring Valley, Minnesota, and Janine (Charles) Jontz of Urbandale; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Bette Harmon of Depoe Bay, Oregon, Vonnie Harmon of Sammamish, Washington, and Lois Julseth of Kensett, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.

Neva was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville Julseth; brothers, Dr. Stanley Harmon, and Kenneth Harmon; brothers and sisters-in-law, Hadley (Pearl) Harmon, Conrad Julseth, Truman (Lorraine) Julseth, Alvin (Phyllis) Julseth, Thelma (Hoyt) Gaarder and David Julseth; a daughter-in-law, Colette Julseth; and a great-granddaughter, Ensly who died in infancy.
