NORTHWOOD, IOWA - Margaret Amelia Flatness, 98, of Northwood, died Sunday, August 24, 2014, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.
A funeral service for Margaret will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood, with Pastor Judy Converse officiating. Burial will be in the Kensett Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday and continue one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the funeral chapel.
Margaret Amelia (Weieneth) Flatness was born on Sept. 7, 1915, on a farm west of Bolan the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Fischer) Weieneth. She attended Sunday school and church in Bolan until 1936. Margaret received her schooling in the little red school house until the Bolan school was built. She then attended high school in Kensett, graduating in 1933. After her schooling she stayed at home for two years helping and caring for her mother.
Margaret was united in marriage to Norman G. Flatness on September 3, 1936, at First Lutheran Church parsonage, with pastor J.W. Ylvisaker officiating, and to this marriage four children were born: Norman Dean, Alan Wayne, Darlene Margaret and Donna Kay. Norman preceded Margaret in death on December 14, 1991.
During her life, Margaret worked at Fallgatters Grocery Store, Mortenson Egg Factory, and O’Brien’s Clothing Store.
Margaret loved to dance, music, especially Polka and the Waltz, was a good pool shooter, going for rides in Donna’s Golf cart, and loved the color red.
Margaret was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church, the Lydia Circle, First Lutheran Church Women group, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Norman (Monika) Flatness of Eagan, Minnesota, Alan (Paulette) Flatness of Inwood, West Virginia, Darlene Weiss of Nashua, and Donna (Warren) Fridley of Northwood; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; brother and sister-in-law, Leslie (Marian) Weieneth, brothers, Doyle Weieneth, and Arlynn Weieneth; a sister, Dora Sanquist; and a son-in-law, Roland Weiss; sisters-in-laws, Hazel Kuhlmann and Ida Knudtson; and a great-great-granddaughter, Chrystie L. Sisson.
