NORTHWOOD, IOWA - Eleanor Victoria Stromley, 93, died Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at the First Shell Rock Lutheran Church, 1406 Central Ave., Northwood, with the Rev. Erich Hoeft officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Obituary--
Eleanor Victoria Stromley, 93, Northwood, died Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the Manly Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of complications of Alzheimer’s.
A funeral service for Eleanor will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, August 29, 2014, at the First Shell Rock Lutheran Church, 1406 Central Ave, Northwood, with Reverend Erich Hoeft officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave South, Northwood. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Friday at the church.
Eleanor Victoria (Sanvik) Stromley, was born on July 18, 1921 in rural Silver Lake Township, the daughter of George and Minnie (Sunvold) Sanvik. She was baptized on August 14, 1921, and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in April 1937. Eleanor received her education in the rural Silver Lake Township. She was united in marriage to Chester Stromley on October 5, 1941, and to this marriage five children were born, Sharon, Darlene, Dennis, Larry, and Denise.
Eleanor was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and loved taking care of her family. She also had a large garden, loved to canning fruits and vegetables, and family gatherings. For many years she cleaned homes in the Northwood area, and was a member of the First Shell Rock Lutheran Church in Northwood.
Eleanor moved into the Manly Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in 2007, and lived there until her death.
Left to cherish her memory is her children, Sharon (Richard) Gentz of Northwood, Darlene (Larry) Spear of Hampton, Dennis (Kyla) Stromley of St. Ansgar, and Denise (Ray) Thurman of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also left to cherish her memory are her eight grandchildren, Michele Gentz of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jeff Gentz of Forest City, Jeff (Tracy) Spear of Hampton, Jody (Kelly) Spear of Mason City, Corey (Carla) Spear of Hampton, Nathan (Shanda) Stromley of Dexter, MN, Matthew Stromley of St. Ansgar, and Jeremy (JoAnn) Geerlings of Salt Lake City, Utah; seven great-grandchildren, Justin Scheel, Hope and Sam Spear, Cindy and Conner Spear, Cassidy Stromley and Dominick Carstens; one sister Senora Brunsvold in the Lake Mills Nursing Home; as well as other extended relatives and friends.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; husband Chester Stromley; son Larry Stromley; five sisters, Gilma Pyle Carey, Margaret McQuarters, Gladys Anderson, Arlene Alitz and Lorraine Sanvik who died in infancy.
