MANLY, IOWA - Nita Mae Benjegerdes, 88, Manly, died Friday, August 22, 2014, at the Muse-Norris Inpatient Unit, Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City.

A funeral service for Nita will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, at the Bethel United Methodist Church, Highway 9, Manly, with Pastor Don Preston officiating. Burial will be in the Manly cemetery following the service.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 East Spring Street, Manly.

Nita's family would like to suggest that those wishing to give a memorial in Nita's memory may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly, or to the Manly Senior Citizens Center.

Nita Mae Benjegerdes was born on August 8, 1926, in Forest City, the daughter of Ivan and Mabel (Hanna) Hodson. She graduated from Hanlontown Consolidated High School in 1943 before starting work at the Hanlontown telephone company.

Nita also worked at the Hanlontown Co-op grocery store and H&P Grocery in Manly, and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, before she married the love of her life, Irvin Henry Benjegerdes on October 24, 1948, at the St. Paul Evangelical & Reformed Church in Manly.

Following her marriage, Nita worked at Carroll and George, Inc. in Northwood, and World Wide College of Auctioneering in Mason City, until her retirement in 1988.

Nita loved attending family gatherings, reading, traveling and gardening in her free time. She was also a member of many organizations, including the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly, the Entre Nous Circle, Christian Home Builders, Manly Senior Citizens, Manly Study Club, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 110, Manly Camera Club, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Left to cherish Nita’s memory are her three daughters, Gloria (Andrew) Weigel of Onalaska, WI, Noreen Benjegerdes and fiancé Ronald Edman of Eagan, MN, and Ardith (Ray) Walker of Lakeville, MN; one son, Harlan (Janean) Benjegerdes of Manly; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Christopher) Jacobson, John (Chrisy) Weigel, Janice (Jared) Stoll, Melissa (Joel) Conaway, Kelly Walker, Justin (Brittany) Benjegerdes, Jessica Benjegerdes, and Chad Gohring; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Sally Hodson and Marcella Klemp, and one brother-in-law, Kenneth (Ruth) Benjegerdes; as well as many nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.

Nita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Irvin Benjegerdes; one great-granddaughter Morgan Jacobson; two brothers, Dale Hodson and Ivan Hodson, Jr.; and one sister, Leora Hogbin.
