NORTHWOOD, IOWA - Beulah Lenore Bohl, 89, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014 at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, First Lutheran Church, Northwood with the Rev. Judy Converse officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from noon until the start of the service at the church.

Beulah was born August 25, 1925, to Sylvan and Amy (Swingen) Holland of rural Woden, Iowa. She graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1943, and was a country school teacher for several years. On October 24, 1947, she married Gene Bohl and they lived in Buffalo Center, Iowa until 1959. They moved to Northwood in 1960 where Beulah first worked at the Northwood Cleaners, and then at the Worth County treasurer’s office.

Beulah enjoyed a form of Norwegian embroidery called hardanger, saying this is what she did to relax. Many of her friends and family have pieces of that hardanger to remember her. She also was known to challenge her luck at the local casino.

Beulah is survived by her daughter, Roz Grundmeier of Jefferson City, Missouri; two grandchildren, Erin Brown of St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Amy (Linca) Scarlett of Columbia, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Linca and Layla Scarlett of Columbia, Missouri; two sisters, Beverly Palmer of Des Moines, and Sharon Goeres of Cedar Falls; and close friends, Helen Senne and Carol Richey.

Beulah was preceded in death by twin daughters, Susan Kay and Sandra Ray in infancy; her husband, Gene; a grandson, Eric Brown; and her sister, Barbara Michaelsen.
