Caroline (Mellem) Rone – May 19, 1857 – April 1944

OLDEST NATIVE RESIDENT DIES
MRS. CAROLINE RONE, 86, LAST OF MELLEM FAMILY

Northwood – Mrs. Caroline Rone, 88, the oldest native daughter of Worth County, died early Sunday morning in Northwood.

She was the oldest daughter and last surviving member of a family of 12 children born to the late Gulbrand O. and Karine Ellingson Mellem. Her parents were the first pioneer settlers of Worth County. Her brother, Ole G. Mellem had the distinction of being the first white child born in Worth County.

Caroline Mellem was born near her present home May 19, 1857. She was baptized by the pioneer pastor, the Rev. C. L. Clausen, and confirmed by the late Rev. t. A. Torgerson.

On May 18, 1882 she was united in marriage to Tollef C. Rone, who died January 18, 1935. To this union were born 5 children: Mrs. Brede Wamstad of Osage; Mrs. A. C. S. Rue of Des Moines; Mrs. Oliver Knutson of Northwood; Carl T. Rone of Northwood and Mrs. L. H. Racker of Waverly, all of whom survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Conner Funeral Home and at 2 o’clock at the First Shell rock Lutheran Church in charge of the Rev. Martin Galstad.
Burial will be in the North Shell Rock Cemetery.
