Funeral services were held Tuesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, for Walter Hackbart, 64, of Grafton, who died Thursday, May 22, 1986, at a Mason City hospital.
The Rev. James Fladland officiated and burial was in the Grafton Cemetery, where military rites were conducted by the Grafton American Legion Post 616.
Mr. Hackbart farmed in the Grafton area until 1971, and then became manager of the Grafton Co-op Lumber Yard, retiring in March 1985.
Born September 8, 1921, in Worth County, near Grafton, he was the son of William and Eva (Viergutz) Hackbart. He attended Grafton schools and graduated from Grafton High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II and married Irene Behl on December 29, 1946, at Grafton.
Mr. Hackbart was a member of the American Legion Post 616, Grafton.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, Grafton; one daughter, Kathleen (Mark) Johnson; three sons, Philip (Gloria) Hackbart and Paul, both of Grafton, and James (Karen)Hackbart, Mason City; six grandchildren; one sister, Wilma Hackbart, Grafton; and one brother, Rolland, Grafton.
