Irene J. Hackbart, age 85, of Grafton, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton with Rev. Ronald Bolinger officiating. Burial was in the Grafton Cemetery.
Irene was born June 24, 1924, in St. Ansgar, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Anna (Neuman) Behl. She attended grade schoool in St. Ansgar and then moved with her family to a farm southeast of Grafton. She graduated from Plymouth High School. Irene was united in marriage to Walter Hackbart on December 29, 1946, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. They farmed in the Grafton area all of their lives. Irene was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church for over 70 years. She was also very active in volunteering in her community. Irene enjoyed baking, artistic painting, cooking, and especially loved spending time with her family.
Irene is survived by her children, Philip (Gloria) Hackbart of Kensett, James (Karen) Hackbart of Plymouth, Minnesota, Kathy (Mark) Johnson of Ankeny, Paul (special friend, Kim) Hackbart of Grafton; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pearl (John) Sauke of Story City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Hackbart in 1986; her infant son, Mark; and a sister, Shirley Roisen.
