JOSIE STANGLER

August 28, 1893 – April 12, 1990

MANLY, IA – Funeral services were held Monday morning, April 16, 1990 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly for Mrs Mary Josephine (Josie) Stangler of Manly. Mrs. Stangler died at her home on Thursday, April 12, 1990.

The Rev. William Arquitt, pastor, officiated at the service, with burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Bride Colonial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements, with the Rosary said Sunday evening at the funeral chapel.

Serving as pall bearers were Bob Klein, Bradley Wilson, Mark Hermanson, LaVerne Kollmann, Ronald Kollmann and John Tesene.

Alice Paulus provided organ music and accompanied Sandra Klein as she sang “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Mrs. Stangler was born August 28, 1893 in rural Grafton, IA, the daughter of John and Katie (Fitzl) Popp. She attended rural school through the 8th grade in rural Plymouth. She was baptized at the St. Michael's Church in Plymouth.

She was married to Leonard Stangler on August 28, 1918 in Mitchell County, IA. She lived in the Manly area all of her life, many of those years within the town of Manly.

She loved to do her gardening, and loved to bake and crochet. She was active in her church, where she was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Sacred Heart Guild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1952; also six brothers, Jacob, Lawrence, Frank, John, Rudolph and Walter Popp; and three sisters, Annie Weaverling, Martha Paul, and Barbara Van Hoosier.

She is survived by one daughter, Marcella Hermanson, Sacramento, CA; one son, Ralph Stangler, Mason City, IA. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Diane Bush, Kathy Lund, Sandra Klein and Mark Hermanson; and five great-grandchildren, Angela Jaeschke, Bradley Wilson, Jana Lund, Shari Lund and Deidre Bush; and two sisters, Bertha Wofford and Katherine Kollmann; and two brothers, David and Ed Popp.
