NORTHWOOD, IOWA -- Florence E. Pangburn, 95, formerly of Northwood, died May 18, 2009 at Casa Grande, Arizona, from natural causes.

A memorial service will be held for Doug and his wife Florence at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2009, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, 201 Franke St. in Joice. A private family inurnment will take place at Sunset Rest Cemetery at Northwood on Friday.

Florence was born July 23, 1913, the daughter of Christopher and Clara (Nelsen) Madsen at South Dakota, and was a country school teacher in the Myrtle, Minn. area.

In June of 1940, she married Douglas A. Pangburn at her parent's farm at Myrtle, Minn. She was a business partner with her husband at Doug's Market in Northwood until 1963 when she attended Mankato State College and received her degree in teaching in 1968.

Florence taught in the Glenville, Minn., school district until she retired and moved to Arizona. Florence and Doug were married for 62 years and always enjoyed travel and socializing together. It was their wish to have one memorial service and be buried at the same time.

She is survived by her son, Craig Pangburn and special friend, Dolores Riddle, of Casa Grande, Ariz.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Richard Hrubetz, of Joice; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Walter Harris, of Canada.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug; parents; four sisters, one brother, sister-in-law, Phyllis Harris; and a grandson, Mark Pangburn.
