KENSETT, IOWA - LaVerne Arlene (Leidal) Fredrickson, 72, of Kensett died on Monday, July 6, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 10, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Burial will be in Grafton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, in Northwood.
LaVerne Arlene (Leidal) Fredrickson was born June 10, 1937, to Luella (Holstad) Kuhlman. In 1941 she was adopted by Curtis Leidal. LaVerne graduated from Northwood-Kensett High School in 1955 and from Northwestern Nursing School in 1958. She started her nursing career at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. She married Ken Fredrickson on Feb. 7, 1959. To this union two children were born, Julie Ann and Mark Eric.
LaVerne worked at Mercy Hospital in the ER for 20 years. She worked as a public health nurse and a homemaker director in Worth County for 22 years. She loved her nursing work in public health and visiting with her clients.
LaVerne was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton for 42 years. She served as organist for 40 years at Emmanuel. She was instrumental in mentoring several young pianists, organ students, and trombone players including her son, Mark, grandchildren, and two nieces. She loved music.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Kuhlman; her maternal grandparents Bendick and Hilda Holstad; her paternal grandparents, Albert and Laura Leidal; and her sister, Karen (Leidal) Plummer.
She is survived by her husband, Ken Fredrickson, rural Kensett; her daughter, Julie Fredrickson, Clear Lake; her son, Mark (Brenda) Fredrickson, Grafton; grandchildren, Averell (Jenni) Jensen, Boone; Erena (Nick) Gordon, Osage; Araylla (Jessie) Hennigar, LaCrosse, Wis.; and great-grandchildren, Tristen and Selina Jensen, Boone; parents, Curtis and Luella Leidal, Northwood; sister, Kathy (Tom) Christianson, Northwood; brothers, LeRoy (Lonna) Leidal, Hudson, Wis.; Kevin (Becky) Leidal, Solon; sisters-in-law, Darlene Fredrickson, Northwood, and Deloris Fredrickson, Northwood; several nieces and nephews, countless friends and family.
The family requests that memorials be given to the organ fund at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton; Opportunity Village, Clear Lake; or the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.
