Clear Lake, IA Dale Raymond Holstad, 82, 2106 1st Ave S., Clear Lake, IA died Thursday, June 25, 2009 at his home. A Memorial service was held 1:30 PM, Monday, June 29, at Zion Lutheran Church 112 N. 4th St., with Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Visitation was held Sunday 2:00 – 4:00 PM at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St. Inturnement will be at the Bristol Church Cemetery, rural Joice Iowa at a later date. Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or Salvation Army Adult Day Care.

Dale was born September 26, 1926 in rural Lake Mills, IA, the son of B.N. and Clara Matilda (Rensmon) Holstad. He graduated from Joice High School 1944. Dale married Shirley Groe March 21, 1948 at the Salem Lutheran Church, Lake, Mills, IA. He farmed and also worked at Fleet Guard in Lake Mills. Following retirement, they moved to Clear Lake. He was a member of Bristol and Sion Lutheran Churches before moving to Clear Lake and becoming a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Dales was known for his “hugs”, was a Yankee fan and loved singing in the choir.

Dale enjoyed fishing, working with his livestock, playing cards, golfing and visiting with friends and relatives.

Dale is survived by his wife Shirley, Clear Lake, IA; two sons Gary (Marcia) Holstad, Duluth, GA and Dave Holstad, Nemaha, IA; two grandchildren Stephanie (Jacob) Stein, Iowa City, IA and Steven (Heather) Holstad, Chicago, IL; great grandchild Selia Stein; and two sisters Beverly Dregne, Clear Lake, IA and Violet Nelson, Modesto, CA.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, brother Arnold and two sisters Marlene and Carmen.
