Bertha Andrine Urdahl Houg was born Dec. 26, 1886, in Worth County, Iowa, to Andrew and [Maria inserted by Lillian] Anna Urdahl. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. O. Nilson and L. O. Pederson.

Bertha taught school in Iowa and South Dakota before being united in marriage to Arthur Houg on April 9, 1923, at Luverne, Minn.

They made their home in Rock County, farming until the time of Arthur’s death May 27, 1959. She continued to make her home on the farm place until the time of her death on Friday, Oct. 6, 1967, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 10 days.

Survivors are two sons, Donald and Morris and one grandson, Allen, all of Jasper; two brothers, Alfred of Everett, Wash., and Odin [sic] of Wadena, Minn.; three sisters, Mrs. Tilman (Mabel) Kittelson, Beresford, S.D., Mrs. Selma Harmon of Northwood, Ia., Mrs. W. [sic] (Lillian) Woodstock of Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Bertha was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, two sisters and one grandson.
