Erick E. Savre
Erick E. Savre, sheriff of Worth County, located in this county in 1869. He was born in Hallingdall, Norway, Dec. 14, 1847. He emigrated with his parents to the United States in 1850, locating first in Dane Co., Wis., where they purchased and opened up a farm. In 1869 he came to Worth County, where his parents had previously moved, and are now living in Kensett Township. Mr. and Mrs. Savre, the parents of Erick E. Savre, have lived togather fifty-seven years, and are members of the Lutheran Church. Erick E. was reared on a farm, receiving a common school education. When nineteen years of age, he commenced doing for himself, working in the summer at farm labor, and attending school in the winter. On coming to Worth County, he took charge of Mr. Blackman's store. In June 1875, he was married to Julia O. Tenold, by whom he had four daughters and one son - Edward Eugine, Sophia Rosa, Clara and Ellen. In 1875 he embarked in the agricultural business, in company with F. E. Kinston, which he followed until 1879, when he was elected sheriff of the county, being re-elected in 1881 and 1883. E. E. Savre, assessor of Northwood, was born in Hallingdal. Norway, Dec. 14, 1847. In 1850 the family emigrated to America, settling in Dane county, Wis. The subject of this sketch came to Worth county in 1869 and entered the merchandise trade, managing a store for Mr. Blackman in Northwood. In 1875 he formed a partnership with F. E. Keniston. under the firm name of Keniston & Savre. This firm conducted an implement business at the present site of the Madson wagon shops. He withdrew from business to enter the sheriff's office.
In 1879 Mr. Savre was chosen sheriff of Worth county, serving continuously until Jan. 1, 1886.
In 1887 the firm of Savre & Herom was formed consisting of E. E. Savre and D. P. Herom. This firm had an implement business where Eckert &, Williams now have their headquarters. In 1892 this partnership was dissolved and Mr. Savre removed to the farm where he remained until the death of his wife in the autumn of 1906. Upon his return to Northwood he was immediately appointed assessor to fill vacancy, being elected to succeed himself in March 1907.
In June 1875 he was married to Miss Julia O. Tenold. Eight children were born to them, all of whom are still living: Edward E., who is now a draughtsman in Chicago: Sophia, who is the wife of County Recorder J. M. Slosson, Rose, wife of Cashier T. S. Hanson of the State Bank: Clara, wife of J. E. O'Grady of Schaller. Iowa; Ella, expert stenographer for Finch and Willing; Lizzie M., one of our popular teachers; Oliver, now in the general office of a large coal company at Tabor, Alberta, Can.; and Alice at home in Northwood.
