Councilman C. H. Beckett was born iu Northwood Nov. 26, 1866 in which all his life, except his later school years, has been spent. He is the only son of B. H. Beckett the pioneer merchant of Northwood. He attended the Northwood public schools, graduating from the high school in the class of 1884. This being the first class to complete the prescribed course for graduation.
In 1885 he entered Cedar Valley Seminary at Osage where he remained one year. In 1887 he became a student in Cornell College. The following year, having determined upon a commercial career, he entered Bryant A Stratton's Business College in Chicago. Having completed his studies he was in 1890 offered n position with the newly organized Worth County State Bank which he accepted. In 1900 he was chosen vice president of that institution, a position which he still holds. In March 1902 he was elected to the Northwood city council being still a member of that body.
Oct. 7. 1897 he was married to Miss Minnie Hurd. of Osage, Four children have been born to them. Hilliard D.. Mildred H.. Helen E. and Chas. W. Mr. Beckett also has a son Leighton D. by a former marriage.
