Melvin Lloyd Frazier, 78, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at a Sergeant Bluff nursing home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the gym in Santee, Neb., with the Rev. David Hussey of Our Most Merciful Savior Episcopal Church in Santee, officiating. Burial will be in Holy Faith Cemetery, Lindy, Neb., with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Benner-Lawrence Post 4834 and American Legion Post 224 of Niobrara, Neb. Visitation will be 2 p.m. today until service time Wednesday at the gym in Santee.
Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
Mr. Frazier was born Nov. 14, 1922, in Santee, the son of Sam and Olive Frazier. He, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a radio operator and ball turret gunner. He was a prisoner of war in Germany and had receive the Silver Star and Purple Heart medals.
He married Rachel Frazier. She died Feb. 18, 1998, in Santee. Melyin had worked for Arnour and Co. and Strange Brothers for several years.
He was a member of St. Paul Indian Mission and was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include three sons, Ronald Gene Frazier of Winnebago, Neb., Robert M. Frazier and Kenneth Frazier, both of Sioux City; three daughters, Juanita, Myra and Brenda Frazier, of Sioux City; a brother, Robat Chase Qf Newport, Ore.; two sisters, Lavonne Gmeinder of Sergeant Bluff, and Caroline Besette of Sioux City; a half brother, Curtis Frazier of Santee; 34 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Milton; a daughter, Gladys; two brothers, Gerald and Smiley; three granddaughters; and two grandsons.
Pallbearers will be Art Denney, Chris Denney, Robert S. Frazier, Wyatt Thomas, Ron Thomas and Rick Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Thomas, Willard. Mackey, Raymond Thomas, Emil Goodteacher, Pat Wabashaw, Jack Wabashaw, Richard Balvin, Richard LaPoint and Carmen Medina.
