Frances E. O'Dea, of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the age of 88. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A short service will follow, and burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Frances was born the daughter of Charles and Agnes (Meduna) Stanislav on October 16, 1936, in Blencoe, Iowa. The family eventually moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where she attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from Heelan High School in 1954. Frances married Kenneth E. O'Dea, Sr. on December 11, 1954, in Sioux City, where they remained and raised their six children. Frances worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, Zenith, Rochester and Pech Optical for many years until her retirement.
She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, reading, and vacationing with her family in Minnesota. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, especially around the holidays for gatherings. She is fondly remembered for her homemade meals and especially her Christmas cookies.
Frances is survived by five sons, Ken E. O'Dea Jr., of Homer, Neb., Michael (Jenny) O'Dea, of Omaha, Neb., Pat O'Dea (Sarah Mead), of Berthoud, Colo., Tim (Mary) O'Dea, of Erie, Colo., and Terry (Allie) O'Dea, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter, Brenda (Ken) Janicek, of Omaha, Neb.; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren; siblings, Charles (Pat) Stanislav, of Bethany Beach, Del., Alice Cederberg, of St. Paul, Minn., Linda Schroeder, of Omaha, Neb., Kathy (Jim) Powell, of Sioux City, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Mary Stanislav.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenny; grandsons, Torin Trevor Bryan O'Dea and Kieran Kelley James O'Dea; siblings and in-laws, Leonard and Emma Lou Stanislav, Ivan Stanislav, Monica and Charles Wiggs, Ben and Betty Stanislav, Rita and Bill Horan, Bernice and Jack Fitzpatrick, Mary Virginia Stanislav, Agnes and Joe Phister; and brother-in-law, Herb Cederberg.
