DANBURY, Iowa - Mrs. Daniel (Josephine) Welte, 85, of Danbury died Wednesday in a nursing home in Mapleton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. The Rev. Robert Thiele will officiate. Burial will be in the Danbury Catholic Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. today by the Rosary Society and at 8 p.m. by the parish in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. Welte, the former Josephine M. Collins, was born March 8, 1897, at Danbury. She was raised in the Danbury community and graduated from St. Patrick's Academy in 1912. She taught in rural area schools for several years.

She married Daniel J. Welte Oct. 6, 1920, at Danbury. They farmed in the Danbury Community until 1959 when they retired and moved into town. Mr. Welte died Nov. 10, 1972. She entered Maple Heights Nursing Home in 1976.

Mrs. Welte was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Rosary Society of the church and Carlsen-Frum Post 336, American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include three sons, Earl of Mesa, Ariz., Maurice of Danbury and Larry of Minneapolis, Minn.; three daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Mary Geraldine) Steckelberg of Elk Point, S.D., Mrs. Elmer (Mariam) Cooper of Mapleton and Mrs. Norman (Alice) Paulsen of Cushing; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
