DANBURY, Iowa - Gerald H. Welte, 89, of Danbury died Wednesday, June 15, 1988, in a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury with the Rev. Jim Tigges officiating. Burial will be in the Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today with the rosary recited by the Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m. and by the parish at 8:15 p.m. in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mr. Welte was born Feb. 27, 1899, in Danbury. He married Laura Collins Feb. 26, 1927, in Sioux City. He was a cattle raiser and in 1954 started the Welte Vault Co. in Danbury. Mrs. Welte died July 26, 1985. In the spring of 1986 he entered the Mapleton Nursing Home.

Mr. Welte was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include five sons, Dennis "Bing" and Michael, both of Sioux City, Patrick of Los Angeles, Edward and Timothy, both of Danbury; five daughters, Mrs. Lewis (Evelyn) Ahlwardt of Pittsburg, Calif., Mrs. Joe (Norma Jean) Burrus and Mrs. Russell (Joyce) Jackson, both of Sioux City, Mrs. Jim (Mary Jo) Person of Fargo, N.D., and Mrs. Richard (Kay) Fritz of Hinton; a brother, William of Battle Creek; two sisters, ; Eileen Hudgel of Sioux City and Ora Collins of Napa, Calif.; 26 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren.
