Daniel John Welte, 77, Danbury, a retired farmer, died Friday at the Battle Creek, Iowa hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury with the Rev. E. D. Huffmann officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery under direction of the Waiter Funeral Home of Mapleton. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home Sunday by the parish at 7:30 p.m. and by the Knights of Columbus at 8 p.m.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by Carlson-Frum Post 336, American Legion.

Mr. Welte was born Oct. 7, 1895, at Danbury, where he was a lifelong resident.

He married the former Josephine Collins Oct. 6, 1920 at Danbury. They farmed near Danbury, retiring to town in 1959.

Mr. Welte was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Carlson-Frum Post 336, American Legion, and the Catholic Order of Foresters, of which he served as financial secretary.

Survivors include the widow; three daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Mary Geraldine) Steckelberg of Elk Point, Mrs. Norman (Alice) Paulsen of Cushing, and Mrs. Elmer (Miriam) Cooper of Mapleton, Iowa; three sons, Earl of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Maurice of Danbury, and Larry of Minneapolis; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gerald of Danbury, William of Cushing, and Charles of Temple City, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. William (Ora) Collins of Napa, Calif., and Mrs. C. B. (Eilene) Hudgel of Boulder, Colo.
