DANBURY, Iowa -- Alma A. Krueger, 83, of Danbury died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Alma Ada Krueger was born Dec. 15, 1920, in Ute, Iowa, the daughter of Austin Lyle and Laura Sophiea (Larson) Davis. The family lived in South Dakota for only a short time, then moved to Danbury, where she resided the rest of her life. She graduated from Danbury Public High School with the class of 1938.

On Oct. 25, 1941, she was united in marriage to Edward Otto Krueger in Tarkio, Mo. Along with raising her five children, she worked at the Mapleton Lanes in Mapleton, Iowa. She also was a nurse's aid at the Battle Creek (Iowa) hospital. The couple owned and operated Ed's Place in Danbury from 1964 to 1979. Ed passed away Dec. 31, 2001.

She was a member of Danbury United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a talented seamstress and did a great deal of sewing and mending for others.

She was well known for her insightful talent as a poet, who often wrote about her reflections on daily life. She had multiple poems published such as "Wisdom of Man" by the Iowa Poetry Association and "Rules for Living" by Quill Books. She was a member of the Famous Poets Society, Long Ridge Writers Group and the Amherst Society. Mostly, however, she wrote simply for the pure pleasure of expressing herself.

Those survivors left to cherish her gentle spirit include two sons and their wives, Fred and Cheryl Krueger of Merrill, Iowa, and Randy and Casey Krueger of Danbury; two daughters, Laurel and her husband, Kenneth Rubendall of Moville, Iowa, and Lois Krueger of Earlham, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Judy Krueger of Yokosuka, Japan; 12 grandchildren, Les Rubendall, Kevin Prell, Shane Schillerberg, Kris Krueger, Tom Krueger, Andy Krueger, Justin Schillerberg, Lisa Burns, Lori Scott, Amy Farley, Shawn Gordon and Emilie Krueger, eight great-grandchildren, Michael and Stephen Scott, Mathew Tantum, Carissa Farley, Jeffery Gordon, Lynsea Gordon, Kalvin Prell and Trevor Farley; a brother and his wife, Dean and Sandi Schiernbeck of El Cajo, Calif., and other relatives, neighbors and good friends.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ed on Aug. 6, 2002; and a grandson, Eric.
