Walter L. Jerman, son of Joseph and Mary Jerman, was born March 10, 1884, at Lucky Valley, an early settlement near the present town of Anthon. He was married to Etta Mahan of Correctionville on February 8, 1905. They lived on a farm west of Anthon until 1925. He managed the elevator in Anthon for a number of years, later had a hardware store in Anthon and Ute.

In 1950, with his son, Mike, he built and operated propane plants in Denison, Dunlap and Manning. He retired in 1956 and lived in Denison until his death on March 24, 1966, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital following a six-week illness.

Requiem Mass was said by Father Jerome Koeing at the St. Rose of Lima Church in Denison on Saturday, March 26. Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery at Anthon with Father A.M. Conlon of Anthon conducting the graveside services. Huebner Funeral Home was in charge.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Oliver, sisters Mrs. J. (Katie) Rourke, Mrs. N. (Lucy) Beebe, Mrs. F. (Nellie) Galvin, and Mrs. M. (Myrtle) Sullivan, a daughter, Marcella and a son, Joseph.

He is survived by his wife, Etta, sons, Cy of Denver, Colorado, Mike of Tucson, Arizona, and daughter, Mrs. William (Mary) Grainger of Denison; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
