Elizabeth M. Hoelker, 82, Matney Morningside Manor, died Monday, February 1, 1988, in Sioux City at the nursing home.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Anthon with Rev. Gerald Zensen officiating. Burial was in Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery, Anthon, under direction of Walter Funeral Home of Anthon.

The former Elizabeth Hildreth was born July 14, 1905, to Merritt and Bessie McKeistray Hildreth, in Soldier, Iowa, and moved to the Anthon area with her parents. She received a teacher's certificate from Morningside College and taught in rural schools in Woodbury County. She married John Hoelker in 1925 at Anthon. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1946. He died in 1948. In 1959 she moved to Covina, California, and returned to Sioux City in 1972. The last 12 years she had lived in the nursing home.

Survivors include four sons, Merritt of Elgin, Illinois; James and Tony both of Sioux City; and Gary of Northridge, California; a daughter, Betty Ziegler of Houston, Texas, 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

She was preceded by her parents, husband, one daughter Dorothy, and one sister.
