Funeral services for Edward E. Greene, 83, longtime Anthon resident, who died Tuesday at an Omaha hospital after a long illness, were held Friday forenoon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Anthon. Rev. A.M. Conlon officiated with burial in Mt. St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery under direction of Walter Funeral Home of Anthon.

Military rites were conducted at the graveside by McNiff Post #389, American Legion.

Pallbearers were Jack McNamara, Marvin Umbach, Sam Reynolds, Jeff O'Connell, Orvel Lucas of Smithland, and Kenneth Adler.

Mr. Greene was born June 28, 1880, at Nevada, Iowa. As a young man he moved to South Dakota where he homesteaded near Faith. After serving in the First World War, he attended the Department of Agriculture at Iowa State University. He came to Anthon in 1923 as manager of the Trans-Mississippi grain elevator. He later managed company elevators at Gray and Smithland. He returned to Anthon in 1936. He married Rose Coleman on September 23, 1925, in Sioux City.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the American Legion post in Anthon.

Survivors include the widow of Anthon, a daughter, Mrs. Orvel Dammann of Rock Rapids, a son, Edward R. of South Sioux City, and four grandchildren.
