Mary Ellen Gipe, 47, of Papillion, NE, died Monday, May 26, 1997 at Midlands Hospital, Papillion, NE.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 29, 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Anthon, Ia. with Father David J. Hogan officiating. Sister M. Clare Walling served as Lector with Nicholas Dixon and Tony Hill as Altar Servers. LaMonna Welte was the organist and Virginia Cunningham vocalist.

Pallbearers were Ramon Flemming, Ray Hoffmann, Bob Wiltse, Paul Flemming, Eric Hoffman and Bob Brauninger. Nancy Flemming, Susan Flemming and Kathy Hoffmann were in charge of the flowers. Phil Sevening arranged cars. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Anthon, Ia. under the direction of Barker Funeral Home, Correctionville.

Mary Ellen was born August 23, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Gerald and Margaret (Jones) Flemming. She graduated from Correctionville High School in 1967. Following graduation, she was employed at Bass Magnusen Advertising in Sioux City, Ia. for several years. She helped facilitate the TAG (Talented & Gifted Children) at the Nodland Elementary School in Morningside. On September 16, 1977 she married James Gipe at Dubuque, Ia. Following her marriage, she was a homemaker. In 1980 the couple moved to Omaha, NE. She loved and cared for stray dogs and cats.

Survivors include her husband, James of Papillion, NE; a daughter, Kerrie Gipe of Hermosa Beach, CA.; maternal grandmother, Mamie Jones of Pine Grove, CA; two brothers, David Flemming and his wife, Debbie of Chicago, IL, and Terry Flemming and his
wife, Mildred of Phoenix, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
