16 October 2022James W. Vail, 78 of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022 at St. Mark Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be directed to meyerbroschapels.com.
James was born the son of Seba and Helen (Hastie) Vail on Dec. 30, 1943 in Indianola, Iowa. He graduated from East High School and Morningside College. James married Kathleen Anderson on July 3, 1970. To this union a son, Matthew, was born.
He worked for AB Dick Products and Gateway before doing some substitute teaching for the Sioux City schools and also Western Iowa Tech.
James enjoyed writing poetry and was an avid reader. He liked to stay active riding his bike and volunteering at ArtSplash.
James is survived by his son, Matthew (Barbara) Vail of Sioux City; grandchildren, Jase, McKennen, Alayna, Indy, Nathan, and Emmett; and great-grandson, Gunther.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill.
