Connie J. Schellinger, 65, of Denver, Colo. died Friday, Sept. 16, 2022, at Swedish Hospital after battling several health issues.

Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave., with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.christysmith.com. No formal dress necessary.

A second funeral service will be held at Spirit of Hope United Methodist Church, 4300 S. Lincoln St., Englewood, Colo., 80113. Date and time to be determined.

Connie was born to Dorothy (Pesicka) and Calvin Harold Hughes on Aug. 3,1957 in Sioux City. She married Douglas W. Schellinger on Aug. 1, 1975. Connie worked at the Woodbury County Court in Sioux City for seven years and at the City and County of Denver Court for 30 years. She was very good at her work to the point the magistrates and judges would have her educate them on the paperwork needed on each case they presided over. She also trained many court clerks over the years in their responsibilities both inside and outside the court room.

While her husband, Doug, was in the U.S. Naval Reserve in Corpus Christi, Texas, Connie did volunteer work for the American Red Cross and taught CPR among other duties.

Connie's many hobbies included music of all kinds especially country western, rock and roll, and gospel, photography, softball, volleyball, genealogy, traveling, doing clay sculpturing, being an Avon rep, collecting coins, being one of the first to try new things as they arose such as social media especially email, Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, and others. She was invited by friends and became part of an acting troupe that put on a play each year for children performed at the Jewish Synagogue or near it.

Connie also enjoyed being with the "pizza group" and having fun with all of them and their spouses.

She renewed friendships with several Sergeant Bluff classmates and enjoyed the get-togethers for lunch or dinner.

She loved church both in Sergeant Bluff and in metro Denver. She sang in the choir, did volunteer work such as welcoming new members, fellowship, doing office work, enjoyed visiting with the members of the churches, being an usher, helping and making many friends there. Connie enjoyed being with her friends in the dance troupe that did performances for the church members on various Sundays. The true joy she spread about Christmas and its meaning was felt by everyone who knew Connie. She was recognized in church as a Quiet Disciple. Humbly, she would help others before helping herself.

She is survived by her husband, Douglas W. Schellinger, of 47 years; her parents, C. Harold (Dorothy) Hughes; her sister, Sheri (Gary) Beaty; uncle, James F. Hughes; aunts, Shirley (Jerry) McKnight and Myra Honomichel; mother-in-law, Lois A. Schellinger; brother-in-law, Dennis (Holly) Schellinger; sister-in-law, Jodie Plendl; sister-in-law, Karen (Ron) O'Donnell; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews and their families. Connie was preceded in death by her grandparents; uncle, Ron Pesicka; and her father-in-law, Joe A. Schellinger.
