Final Rites for Paul Flemming Tuesday

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Joseph Catholic church in Anthon for Paul M. Flemming, 85, lifelong resident of the Correctionville community who passed away Sunday, February 12, at Correctionville.

Paul Michael Flemming, son of John and Rosalia Flemming, was born at Correctionville on June 23, 1881. He lived his entire life on the farm a mile northwest of Correctionville, which his father had homesteaded. In addition to farming, he operated the Flemming Sand and Gravel pit for many years.

Mr. Flemming claimed the distinction of being the longest continuous subscriber to the News, the paper having been read by the family every week since his father obtained a copy of the first edition, just off the press, in May 1882.

On May 16, 1905, Mr. Flemming was married to Mary Ann Carr, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Anthon.

Nine children were born to this union; Pauline, who died at the age of 1 1/2 years, Lucille, who died at the age of 17; Kathleen Burnham, who died in 1964; six others survive; Leo, North Sioux City, S. D., Mrs. Stoltz (Irene) Hart, Clarence, Gerald, Winifred, all of Correctionville, Mrs. John (Vivian) Sevening, Cushing. Also survive are 2 sisters, Mrs. Agnes Fredricks and Clara Flemming, both of Sioux City, 27 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1959; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Father A. M. Conlon officiated at the services at 9:00 a. m. Tuesday, February 14, in St. Joseph Catholic church, Anthon. Leland Irwin, Francis Schrunk, Eddie Osipowicz, Stanley Fitch, Harold Hilger and Ned Castle were pallbearers. Leland Frost arranged cars. Interment was in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery, Anthon.
