Mrs. Leo Flemming Dies At Farm Home

The Anthon, Oto and Correctionville communities were saddened by the death of Mrs. Leo Flemming at 1:15 a. m. Friday, March 26, 1954, at her home.

She became ill during the month of August 1953. She entered St. Vincent hospital in Sioux City, December 31st. After returning to her home in January, she was confined to her bed until the time of death. She passed away at the age of 43 years.

Marie Angela Callaghan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Callaghan was born May 2, 1910, at Hornick. She received her education at St. Joseph parochial school at Anthon and graduated the year 1928. She taught in the rural schools a number of years before her marriage June 10, 1935, to Leo
Flemming of Correctionville.

The Flemmings spent the first two years of their marriage on a farm nine miles northwest of Danbury and then moved to a farm north of Correctionville until the spring of 1941 when they moved to their present farm five mile southwest of Anthon.

Their union was blessed with one son, Richard Leo and two daughters, Annette Marie and Joan Frances.

Other survivors include one sister, Mrs. Marguerite Bernard of Anthon, two brothers, Maurice Callaghan of Anthon and Francis Callaghan of Oto and her father, James Callaghan of Oto. Mrs. Flemming was preceded in death by her mother.

Mrs. Flemming was a devout Catholic and lived a good upright Christian life. She was a most kind and loving wife and mother and very devoted to her family and home doing everything for their comfort and welfare, always ready to lend a helping hand wherever she was able. Mrs. Flemming was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her. She was an active worker in behalf of Saint Joseph church of Anthon to which she belonged.

Funeral Services

Funeral services were conducted at 9:00 a.m. Monday. March 28th, at St. Joseph Catholic church at Anthon with the Rev. A. M. Conion officiating at the Requim High Mass. Pallbearers were Frank Carr, Leo McDermott, Clifton Renneker, Frank Schuh, Lewis Foley and Bernard Cole, Burial was in
Mount St. Joseph’s cemetery under the direction of the Hudgel funeral service of Anthon.

Relatives from out-of-town attending the last rites included Mr. and Mrs. John Schaberg and family, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Schaberg and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sokolwski, Mr. John Carr and Mrs. Maurice Coyne all of Sioux City. Mr. and Mrs. James McNiff of Artonville, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Joe Folk of Milbank, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. John Folk of Corona, S. D. and Mrs. Frank Waters of Cherokee.
