The Anthon Herald
2 November 1938

"Death claimed another of Anthon's most loved women at 6 a.m. Sunday, October 30, 1938, when Mrs. Margaret Farmer passed away in her home here at the age of 84 years. The venerable octogenarian had been suffering with rheumatism the past fifteen years.

In May 1935 she fell and fractured her hip, and she had been in a wheelchair practically all the time since. Her condition became serious about 6 weeks ago while she was visiting with her daughter, Mrs. Sam Schoberg, at Spencer, Nebraska. She was brought to Anthon five weeks ago and although her condition improved temporarily, she later became worse. Mrs. Farmer suffered intense pain during her last illness and passed away Sunday morning from a complication of ailments incident to old age. Her daughter, Mrs. Jess Gothier, remained constantly at her side during the last weeks of her illness, administering to her needs most patiently.

Margaret Coyne, daughter of John and Rose Coyne, was born in the State of New York in September 1854. The exact date of her birth is not known as no accurate records were kept at that time. As a child of two years she moved with her parents to Chesterville, Ontario, Canada. She grew to womanhood in that vicinity and was married there in 1876 to Patrick Farmer. Their married life was spent in Canada and five children, all of them living, were born to them.

Mr. Farmer died in 1898 and in 1905 the widow and her children came to Anthon to make their home. The remainder of her life was spent here where she reared a fine family.

Survivors include three sons, Hugh J. and Thomas J. both of Omaha, and John D. Farmer of Anthon; two daughters, Mrs. S.H. Schoberg of Spencer, Nebraska, and Mrs. Jess Gothier of Anthon, nine grandchildren, two brothers, Syl Coyne of Anthon and Tom Coyne of Salix, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Cole of Oto and Mrs. Bridget Malloy of Ontario, Canada.

Funeral services were conducted at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Rev. D.K. Hurley officiating."
