12 December 1934

A resident of Woodbury County for 54 years, Mrs. Mary Eisenmenger passed away in her home at Anthon Saturday at 1:40 a.m. following an illness of many years. She was 79 years, 5 months and 27 days of age at death.

Death was caused by complications incident to old age. About 27 years ago her health began to fail and numerous times her life was despaired of. However, her earthly journey had not been completed and she recovered on several occasions when physicians had given up hope for her.

The past 2 ½ years she had been confined to her bed or wheel chair practically all of the time, receiving the most devoted care from the two daughters who made their home with her, Miss Teresa and Miss Clara Eisenmenger. After so many years of patient suffering, her wish for a peaceful death was granted at 1:40 a.m. on the day of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, an important holiday of the Catholic Church.

Mary Cecilia Fellman was born June 11, 1855 in Peoria, Illinois, to Joseph and Mary Fellman. She grew to young womanhood in Illinois and as a girl of sixteen she became the bride of Joseph Eisenmenger of Peoria. In 1880 they left Illinois and went to Iowa, taking up their residence in the Oto community. There they lived for about nineteen years. In 1900 the Eisenmenger family moved onto a farm near Anthon where they remained for seven years. They moved into the town of Anthon in 1907, and Mrs. Eisenmenger resided here until her demise.

She was preceded by her husband Joseph in 1916, daughter Katherine and an infant son, Joseph.

Survivors include four sons, Ben and Paul of Cherokee, Andrew of Graceville, Minnesota; and Jacob of Milbank, South Dakota; four daughters, Mrs. Emma O'Connell, Mrs. Margaret Thayer, and Misses Teresa and Clara Eisenmenger of Anthon; a sister, Mrs. Amelia Reinhart of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; twenty-five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; other relatives and a legion of friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. D.K. Hurley, pastor, officiating assisted by Rev. Fr. Dunn of Salix and Rev. Fr. Ernst of Oto. Burial was in Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery, Anthon, under direction of Hudgel's Funeral Service.
