MANSON, Iowa - Emma Coyne, 95, of Manson died peacefully Friday, July 2, 2004, at her home in Golden Meadows Apartments in Manson, surrounded by her children.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, Iowa, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Anthon. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, with a 4 p.m. rosary by the Women's Club, at Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson.

Emma Dixon was born Sept. 29, 1908, in Harrison County, Iowa, the daughter of John J. and Vera Clark Dixon. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in Anthon, Iowa and received her nursing degree from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City.

On Aug. 16, 1932, she married Thomas J. "Tom" Coyne Sr., and together they raised their nine children in Anthon, Iowa. Emma was a public health nurse for Woodbury County, Iowa from 1959 to 1969. She and Tom moved to Manson in 1979.

Emma is remembered for her tremendous strength, kindness and generosity. As a devout Catholic, Emma had a deep devotion to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal and was a lifelong member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She loved playing Scrabble, gardening and had a passion for writing letters to family and friends. Her cards and letters reveal her wit and love of family.

Survivors include daughters, Mary (Joseph) Casillas of Chicago, Ill. and Jean (Gerald) Naughton of Omaha, Neb.; Sr. Julie Coyne of Sioux City, Kathy Dieschel of West Allis, Wis., Nancy (Hank) Brown of Dripping Springs, Texas, Sheila (Clarence) Bradley of Manson and Colleen (Terry) Wright of Sioux City; her sons, Thomas "Jay" (Jeanette) Coyne Jr. of Temecula, Calif, and Michael Coyne of Waterloo, Iowa; 27 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Weber of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her parents; an infant son, Francis; her brothers, Edward, Leo, Francis, Cletus, Raymond, Paul and James Dixon; and sisters, Bernice O'Connell and Patricia Lacey.
