Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Anthon, for Henry Bernard, 86, a 50-year resident of the Anthon area, who died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital after an illness of two years. Rev. A. Conlon officiated. Burial was in Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery under direction of Larkin Funeral Home of Sioux City.

Mr. Bernard was born September 25, 1869, at Chicago. He moved to Anthon as a boy and farmed in that area until his retirement 20 years ago, when he moved to Sioux City. He was married February 5, 1894, to Nora Cragin at Anthon. Mrs. Bernard died in 1908.

Survivors include three sons, Ralph E. and Joseph A., both of Sioux City; Earl W. of Valejo, California; three daughters, Mrs. Edward Gothier of Sioux City, Mrs. S.H. Cook of Nampa, Idaho, and Mrs. James Shanahan of Mobridge, South Dakota; a brother, James of Anthon; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Coyle of Los Angeles and Mrs. Mattie LaDeau of Kansas City, Kansas; 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
