Jesse L. Benton, son of Herbert and Augusta Benton, was born August 10, 1895, at Oto, Iowa. He married Berniece Green at Oto in June 1919. He was a barber at Oto for 41 years. He was a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Benton died Sunday, October 8, 1967, at Boulder, Colorado, after a two-week illness at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 28 days.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 11, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Oto, with The Rev. Thomas Munn officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Anthon. Military rites at graveside were conducted by the Oto American Legion Post.

Pallbearers were Tom McDonald, Lewis Collins, Bert Ullrich, Millard Allman, Victor Moore and Artin Riddle.

The Rosary was recited at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening at the Walter Funeral Home, Anthon.

Survivors include two sons, Jessie, Jr., of Metarie, Louisiana, and Ralph of Kewanee, Illinois; a daughter, Mrs. Janice Whitney of Boulder, Colorado; two brothers, Marion of Sioux City and Paul of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister, Mrs. Earl (Hazel) Miller of Oto and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers and one sister.
