Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. Friday for Mrs. J.L. Benton, who passed away at her home in Oto Wednesday morning, April 15, 1953, following an 8-months illness. Rev. LeRoy Frank officiated at the requiem high mass, assisted by Rev. Conlon of Anthon. Interment was in Mt. St. Joseph's Cemetery at Anthon under direction of Hudgel's Funeral Home of Anthon.

Berenice Elizabeth Benton, daughter of the late A.D. and Mrs. Josie Green, was born February 16, 1893, at Hudson, South Dakota. She came to Oto at an early age and spent the remainder of her life here. She attended the Sister's school at Anthon and the Oto public school, and for several years taught in the rural schools of this vicinity. She was united in marriage to Jess L. Benton at St. Mary's Church in Oto on June 4, 1919. To this union three children were born, Jess Jr., Ralph and Janice.

The deceased was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Altar Society and the Ladies Study Club. She also served as acting postmistress for a number of years.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Jess L., Jr. of Arlington, Virginia; and Ralph H. of Des Moines; a daughter, Janice at home; two sisters, Mrs. Opel Oregon and Mrs. Irene Livermore, both of Oto; two brothers, Barney Green of Oto and John Green of Sioux City; four grandchildren.

She was preceded by her parents and three brothers, Bert, Charles and Mac.
