Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Anthon for Meredith Banta, 60, who died Thursday at his home in Anthon. Rev. A. Conlon officiated and burial was in Mt. St. Joseph's Cemetery under direction of Hudgel Funeral Home.

Meredith Banta, son of Constantine and Virginia Banta, was born January 25, 1889, at Danbury. His life was spent in the vicinity of Danbury and Anthon except for five years in Nebraska and Colorado. He was married to Ethel Umbach February 5, 1945, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Anthon.

He had been in poor health for more than a year and last December was forced to give up working.

Survivors are the widow, Ethel; three stepsons, Raphael Umbach of Detroit, Michigan; Marvin and Mike Umbach of Anthon; four brothers, Charlie, Tine, Dave and Ray Banta of Anthon; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Kraft of Correctionville, and 18 nieces and nephews.

His parents and three brothers preceded him in death.
