Mrs. Kirstine Nelson, 83, died Saturday morning in her home, 1208 S. Cecelia Street, after a long illness. She had resided here since 1923 except for three years spent with a daughter near Elk Point.

She was born April 23, 1862, in the village of Trysted near Horsens, Denmark. She came to the United States at the age of 22, settling with her parents near Salix. She was married May 5, 1885, to Hans Nelson at Salix; and lived on a farm six miles southeast of Sergeant Bluff. Her husband died in 1902.

Mrs. Nelson was a gold star mother of the first world war and was a member of the Sergeant Bluff American Legion post auxiliary. The post was named in memory of her son, George Nelson.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran church and the church's aid society.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Karen Thompson of Salem, Ore., Mrs. Anna Hadden of Gustine, Cal., Mrs. Cecelia Thompson of Sioux City and Mrs. Nellie Sorensen of Kent, Wash.; a son, Silius Nelson of Kent, Wash.: 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren: a brother, Herman Nelson of Sioux City, a half-brother, L. C. Nelson of Elk Point: two half-sisters, Mrs. Anna Sorensen of Elk Point and Mrs. Karen Nelson of Burchinal, la.

Services will be at 1:30 p. m. Monday in the W. Harry Christy chapel in Morningside. Rev. John Magnussen will officiate. Interment will be in the Sergeant Bluff cemetery. Members of the George Nelson post will be pallbearers.
